Asato Kakimoto (柿本 麻人 (かきもと あさと) Kakimoto Asato) is a treasure hunter and the first victim in Treasure Island Murder Case
Appearance[]
Kakimoto is a man in his early-mid forties who wears camouflage uniforms and almost always seen having a smoking pipe. In the anime, his outfit's camouflage pattern is omitted and he wears a typical military-look outfit with no pattern. His hairstyle ten years prior to the case is slightly similar to Kohei Himura but more straight.
History[]
Ten years prior to the murder case, Kakimoto, along with Daisuke Mimasaka, Ryuzo Yasojima, and Hisayoshi Yaogi are part of an archaeologist group which to research all treasure legend across Japan headed by Kyosuke Saeki, the father of Koichiro Saeki. One day, they focused on the treasure legend at Hiho Island, which they searched for days and found nothing.
Kakimoto, alongside the other three confronts Saeki on a cliff when Saeki decides that the treasure he previously found alongside his son to be national heritage. Saeki was dead by accidentally fall from the cliff. Kakimoto leaves the group and continues his career as treasure hunters, and according to Eisaku Iwata, even travelled around the world to find treasures (though how many he actually did found is unclear).
Personality[]
Kakimoto is shown to be very impatient and rude as he want to quickly finds the treasure himself. He is said to be "a dangerous army old man". He keeps all of his findings in his notebook, similar to his colleague Ryuzo Yasojima, but instead of a tape recorder, he's using a notebook.

Etymology[]
- The name Asato means "hemp, flax" (麻) (asa) and "person" (人) (to).
- Asato's surname Kakimoto means "persimmon" (柿) (kaki) and "base, root, origin, source" (本) (moto).
- Persimmon is an edible fruit that resembles a large tomato and has very sweet flesh.
Trivia[]
- Although he's slightly older than Hisayoshi Yaogi, he physically looks younger than him.
- It is unknown if Kakimoto keeps a weapon to protect himself. If he does, he doesn't have the chance to use it before being killed.
