Gentleman Thief (怪盗 紳士 (かいとう しんし) Is a phantom thief who first appeared in Murder by Gentleman Thief. She along with Yoichi Takato (by the extension the Twelve Olympians) are one of the recurring antagonists in Kindaichi Case Files. Before the revelation, it is widely assumed based on her name and insignia (A top hat and a moustache) that the thief is a male, but it's only a ruse as the real Gentleman Thief is actually a woman.
History[]
What the Thief's past before becoming a phantom thief is a mystery. She's shown to have a passion for fine arts and wants to collect them in her gallery (likely private gallery), which is the most likely motivation for stealing. She's apparently wealthy enough, or has connections to own multiple helicopters, turboprop plane, and a submarine. Before her debut, she never shows her real appearance and only shows her card before and after stealing pieces of art. Her makeup artist, Kurogawa is one of the two named and fully shown subordinates of her (though her relationship with him seemingly more business-like than personal one.), the other one being Douglas Howard.
Murder by Gentleman Thief[]
Another person who claims to be the Phantom Thief (the real culprit of the incident) has issued a notice, so he sneaks in to see what's going on. She causes an incident disguised as a real art magazine reporter named Maki Daigo. She deceived the police with her daring trick of hiding the picture he was aiming for, " Portrait of My Beloved Daughter, " inside an imitation painting and then taking it away at night.
She was exposed when Kindaichi read the strategy and grabbed a copy of the painting. The strategy of trying to take it away under the cover of darkness became the enemy. Then, after the incident, she went out of her way to get revenge, pretending to be an old woman carrying a basket with a heavy bag (with a large stone inside) tied to it on her back, and made Kindaichi carry it on her back, causing Kindaichi to get stuck in the middle of the road when he couldn't move.
Death God Hospital Murder Case[]
Gentleman Thief issued a notice to the captain of the cruise ship Queen Angelica Douglas Howard. She'll steal the painting with the same name on board the ship. Howard is adamant that the thief couldn't possibly steal the painting due to the size of it's frame. She uses two types of tricks in order to steal the painting: First with igniting loads of fireworks on board the ship and second with sending her accomplice to leave the ship using a small boat as a decoy. It's later revealed that Douglas Howard is one of her accomplice and points a revolver at Kengo Akechi's back when he tries to corner the thief.
Gentleman Thief, seeing that the opportunity to steal the painting has gone, decides to retreat and steal Akechi's sketchbook as a replacement and compliments his drawing but she's sad that it wasn't her that he was drawing. She explodes her smoke bombs and escape with Douglas Howard to a huge submarine that's suddenly resurfaced near the cruise ship
Challenge from the Gentleman Thief[]
The Gentleman Thief disguised as a male magazine reporter named Shusuke Endo , she slips into the scene with other reporters and appears to steal the House of the Rising Sun that belongs to an art appraiser Tokitsugu Fujita.
By disguising the rising sun with lighting equipment and suddenly extinguishing it, he took advantage of the confusion and took away the painting, while at the same time stealing the motif of the rising sun vividly. However, Kindaichi exposed her disguise, and he took the initiative and replaced his mobile phone, so she was tracked by GPS and failed.
She was nearly caught, but fled with a backup police car and flatten the tire of the other police cars and makes the police helicopter crash. Furthermore, at this time, she expresses herself to take revenge. She disguised herself as a waitress at a family restaurant where Kindaichi entered, and stole Kindaichi's first request fee.
In the anime version, Kyoka Mori, the daughter of Kairi Nishiyama, is arranged to cross the "House of the Rising Sun", which was also the target of his work, and has a complicated inner life that is common to many criminals. Young Kindaichi's Trip of Death Preparedness[]
Appears in the Grand Finale. Disguised as a taxi driver, she approaches Kindaichi and appears to apply for a return match. However, at this time, Kindaichi was about to go on a trip, so the game was passed, and in place of the stolen request fee, she was treated like a friend and paid the travel expenses.
Alchemy Murder Case[]
Disguised as a school girl named Rikako Isshiki, an alchemy enthusiast with a crazy personality, she sneaks in. She remains involved in the case from beginning to end as a stakeholder. At that time, she also lied that she was the daughter of an alchemist who lived on this island.
Mystery of Missing Gold Medal[]
Anime original short episode. In the same pattern as Murder by Gentleman Thief, an imposter once again framed her for murder. When she escaped, she stole the L from the signboard of the sports club "GLORY" run by the owner of the medal, and stole the owner's glory = GLORY along with the medal. This time , she disguised himself as Isamu Kenmochi . It is still a mystery how she disguised herself as Kenmochi with her physique.
Greetings from the Gentleman Thief[]

It shows her short black hair, a tall and attractive figure which she insist to be fully hers and not part of the disguise.
Her outfit consist of a black or purple skin-tight suit, matching shoes and a white scarf.
Personality[]
Her most defining traits is her mischievousness and her liking towards fine arts. If she successfully steals a famous painting, she will make hilarious changes to the model of said painting by making it similar to her calling card logo. She's exceptionally smart as she always do her research first before stealing fine arts and it's the reason she's never caught. After issuing a notice, she disguises herself as a person concerned, sneaks into the scene, and takes away the target item with brilliant tricks. With special make-up, she can pretend to be a real person, so she has a high probability of bypassing the police's background check.
Despite being a criminal, she does have her own moral compass. She will never damage her stolen paintings and won't kill a human model as she only takes the model by make it looks like a prank. It's also fit's with her name. as killing will be considered ungentlemanly.
While it's unclear if it's intentional or not, when she's told to shut up by Kenmochi, she briefly acts girlish by screaming childishly and calling him cruel. It could be her real personality accidentally slips out or she just acting sarcastically. Because she's a woman, she has a tendency to flirt on Kindaichi and once showing off her body to others.
