Koichiro Saeki is the university professor Kyosuke Saeki's son, who was killed by his fellow friends Asato Kakimoto, Ryuzo Yasojima, Daisuke Mimasaka, Hisayoshi Yaogi and Eisaku Iwata to take over Hiho Island. He disguise himself as the daughter of Daisuke Mimasaka, the island's owner, Midori Mimasaka and it's thought to be her until Kindaichi revealed the truth.
History[]
Koichiro Saeki was Professor Saeki’s son, and his mother was an American. Ten years ago, his father was doing research on legendary treasures, and he was the leader of a group having four other members- Mimasaka, Kakimoto, Yasojima and Yaogi. The group was searching for the treasure in an island, when Professor Saeki accidentally found it himself. He hid this discovery from his teammates, and brought only his son, Koichiro, to see the treasure- bars of gold, stacked in a huge pile.
There, the professor told his son about the dark side of all that beautiful gold. People had lost their lives trying to get it. He intended to donate the treasure to the country, away from greedy hands. However, soon enough, the other four people found out about the discovery, and they opposed Professor Saeki’s decision. While they were all still on that island, the four tried to get Professor Saeki spill out the treasure’s location. They cornered him on a cliff, but he lost his footing and fell onto the rocks below. Saeki died, and his colleagues, not knowing what to do, abandoned their search and left the island. What they did not know was that Koichiro had witnessed all that had happened. As he looked at his father’s battered body, Koichiro swore to take revenge on the four men.
Years later, Koichiro was living in America. There he met Midori Mimasaka, the only daughter of one of his father’s murderers. He pretended to be her friend, waiting for a chance to take revenge. However, as time passed, he got to know her better and realized she was a sad and lonesome woman. Her father had abandoned her, and she had no relatives to rely on. Koichiro and Midori eventually fell in love, but sadly, Midori committed suicide. She had received a letter from her father, and he was asking her to take part in a treasure hunt with him. If they ever found the treasure, she would help him kill all the other participants. He also wrote about how they killed Koichiro’s father ten years ago. All of this was enough to make Midori choose death, and Koichiro lost the woman he loved. His disgust at her father’s greed reignited Koichiro’s desire to murder him and his other three comrades.
Disguised as Midori, he kills Daisuke Mimasaka (one week before the tour) and dismembers the corpse and puts it in the wall clock. Then, during the tour, Kakimoto, Yasojima, Yaogi, and Himura were also killed to shut their mouths.
The former three put a piece of the black torii in front of their cottage or showed it directly to make them realize that the black torii is actually red torii, lure them into the evil eye, which is said to have treasure, and kill them in the cave inside. (It takes about 5 minutes from the log house).
In Kakimoto's case, the corpse was dismembered and the blood of the chicken was sprinkled over the cottage to make it appear to have been killed there (the homemade breakfast menu used the chicken at that time).
In the case of Yasojima, after being murdered, they are dismembered and carried to the cottage, then set on fire and burned down. In fact, it was a trick to burn the cottage in Yasojima to spread the fire to the neighboring cottage in Kakimoto and to destroy the blood of the chickens. The corpse was dismembered to make it easier to carry.
Himura followed him and witnessed him changing clothes. However, due to lack of time, it was not possible to compare it to the legend of Yamado.
Like Kakimoto and others, Yaogi was killed at the entrance of the Devil's Eye. It was discovered by Hajime who rushed to know the time when the evil eye would open. He was going to leave it alone for the time being and tear it apart later, but when Miyuki's silver barrette changed color in the hot spring, it was discovered by Hajime (and Miyuki, who came along), who realized the secret of "Vermilion Bird".
He was acting as Midori, but when Miyuki got soaking wet and was about to change clothes, he came out with the inner lid of her toilet seat up when he ran into Hajime in the toilet . Because of this, he was spotted as a man (probably because before he was going to kill Yaogi, he was going to use his toilet before that). He became the only person who could be manipulated to his liking, and was exposed as the culprit.
At that time, Hajime broke the chest from the shoulder of his clothes and proved that he was Koichiro because there was no bulge in his chest.
He was left behind after being injured when Iwata set up a cave collapse, and everyone noticed it after escaping. Among them, only one managed to rush to the rescue.
In the middle of all the obstacles, he tries to break down the rocks and open the exit, but he continues to have a desperate and throwaway attitude. Hajime convinces that he could start his life over and turn a new leaf. He changed his expression and joined forces to open up the collapsed hole and survive. he was arrested.
After the incident, Hajime expressed a kind of respect, saying, "He was a terrifyingly smart guy. I was just lucky that I was able to solve the mystery of the incident."
As for Miyuki, it seems that the extra guests who didn't have an invitation (in other words, they didn't invite) came to the island was totally out of the question (Kindaichi also pointed out that after Kakimoto's murder). However, aside from the fact that the number of Japanese dolls did not match, it does not seem to have interfered with the plan because they did not take any strange actions.
Some readers disagree that a 13-year-old boy commits such a brutal murder. If the culprit is an adult, the possibility of death penalty in the real world is extremely high. In addition, even though it was unplanned, he killed Himura, who was unrelated, and Chris, who was also unrelated, was called a scapegoat from the beginning (and in some cases, considering the possibility that he would be judged as the culprit and killed). He also does things that can't be sympathize with, such as killing six people, the most among minor criminals.
However, considering that he spent his childhood in the rough environment of America, it is by no means a pipe dream. Even in the real America, there are many crimes committed by teenagers, and in many cases they have a heavy and dark past, such as abusive home environments and abuse from their relatives. Adults blinded by greed like Mimasaka and others, cruel adults like his uncle and Midori's father who don't even see his relatives as relatives.
It is certain that the seeds of the tragedy that caused the incident were sown by such adults.
In the drama version, after his father's death, he was taken in by his uncle, but he couldn't stand the assault and stabbed him to death. Because of this, he moved from one facility to another and ended up in a juvenile training school. After that, he lived with his childhood friend Midori, who came to pick him up when he was released from prison (probably at Midori's house). Koichiro, who lost his relatives, and Midori, who was abandoned by his only relative, his father, became the only emotional support for each other, and began to live close to each other like brothers and sisters.
However, one year after the two got together, Midori committed suicide for the same reason as in the original, and Koichiro lost his emotional support. After learning the reason for her suicide and the truth behind her father's death from Midori's diary, he takes revenge. After being exposed by Kindaichi, he confesses everything, and in the end he stays in a collapsing cave and chooses his own death. At this time, he seems to have superimposed Hajime and Miyuki on his former self and Aoi, and left a message to Kindaichi, "Mr. Kindaichi, your childhood friend, cherish it!!" On the verge of death, his face was somewhat radiant from the joy of meeting Midori again in the other world. Also, since Himura does not appear in the drama, he does not kill people unrelated to revenge. For these reasons, the drama version of him was treated more sympathetically than in the original.
By the way, according to the official guidebook, he was placed on probation after being admitted to a juvenile training school for several years, but it seems that he still hasn't let go of his cross-dressing habit. He also appeared in " Criminal Case Files " without cutting or tying her long hair at his visit.
Even though there is a difference between being a minor and being an adult, considering that the criminal who murdered six people less than him, and who didn't kill unrelated people, is sentenced to life imprisonment. Under Japanese criminal law, it's impossible to get a prison sentence for a crime when you were 13 years old. ( It is possible to enter a juvenile training school under the Juvenile Law .)
