Li Bo Er (Simplified Chinese: 李 波児 Lǐ bō ér ), is a police inspector of the Chinese People's Police (Chinese: 人民警察; pinyin: Rénmín Jǐngchá) who first appeared in Shanghai Mermaid Legend Murder Case light novel.

He used to work for the Shanghai Public Security Bureau but was later transferred to the Hong Kong police. He's tall, sharp-eyed, and cool. He is usually expressionless and speaks in a mechanical manner without intonation. He has been trained at the Metropolitan Police Department in Japan for about a year, and can speak polite, albeit broken, Japanese.

Appearance[]

Li has a medium long black hair, black eyes and slightly fair skin. He wears a white shirt under a crocodile green suit with no tie, cream colored pants and black shoes.

Personality[]

Li Bo Er is a calm and collected person, and usually doesn't show his emotions. However, at first, he also had a straight-laced side, using only his motives and circumstantial evidence to interrogate the suspect and try to get him to confess the whereabouts of the murder weapon, even requesting an arrest warrant. On top of that, he was reluctant to take Kindaichi's hand in his own investigation, and refused to take Kindaichi's argument seriously, saying, "That's a quibble."

He later recognizes and respects his reasoning power when he comes to a solution with one reasoning. He was relatively flexible in his thinking when he reappeared in subsequent incidents. When he visited Japan for training, he became close to Isamu Kenmochi and also became acquainted with Kengo Akechi . Therefore , he respects Kenmochi, who has been indebted to him, as "a real detective with long experience" , and when he asks him for a favor, he often cannot refuse.

He's also a martial arts user even in the work, and a master of mantis fist.Yang Xiaolong, who is a user of Drunken Fist, senses that he is "a master who has mastered some kind of martial arts" just by looking at his body, and actually learns the stance of martial arts. As soon as he saw him, his expression lost all composure, and he tried to fight with drunken fists without any odds of winning. In the end, it didn't lead to a confrontation due to Kindaichi's restraint. He's is not very good at reasoning because he initially appeared as a straight-laced detective. When he reappeared, his thoughts became somewhat flexible, but he still couldn't keep up with Kindaichi and Akechi's deductions, and was left behind with other semi-regulars.
