A few years before the main story, Loyal Garden Hotel is used as the location of a worldwide chess tournament, which has many chess players from all around the world. Including Kengo Akechi, Shohei Kaneda, Toshiro Funaki, Kenneth Goldman, Jean Monolith, Carlos Rossi and many others. This is the location of the death of Funaki.
