Makabe Makoto (真壁 誠) is a student at Fudo High School and member of the mystery club, along with Miyuki Nanase. He meets Kindaichi in School's Seven Mysteries Murder Case and soon they became rivals in proving who was the most intelligent.
He published a mystery book that was awarded, although it was later revealed to have been written by his girlfriend Tomoyo Takashima, even though he also aimed to be with Miyuki. 20 years later, he becomes a police detective, and improved his relation with Kindaichi after Tower Mansion Madam Murder Case, since then he let him investigate at the crime scene as much as he wanted.
Appearance[]
Personality[]
He has a habit of giving a sideways glance when he is acting like a smug. He likely thinks he's trying to be cool, but the look in his eyes makes him look pretty disgusting, so he's got a bad reputation.
He has a sly and obnoxious personality. Even when he first appeared, he looked down on the ignorant Kindaichi who didn't read books. He also has a lustful side when he sees a beautiful female student in the school and tries to dabble indiscriminately.
Because of that, he is hated by Miyuki, and he is hated by everyone as "the pronoun of a hateful man".
Even so, he is known as a genius high school writer who won the "Mystery Grand Prize". The title of his award-winning work is "Bracelet Murder Case". He boasted about the award constantly and plastered the poster on the wall of Mystery Club to brag about it. It seems that he has suddenly become a person of the moment because he is the first high school student to win an award.
After that, he confidently solved the locked room murder trick in front of the mass media, so he seems to have some reasoning powers, but in fact, he had his junior, Tomoyo Takashima, write a novel and published it under the false guise that he had written it. In other words, she asked Takashima to be a ghostwriter. On top of that, there is a depiction of her taking Takashima as his lover, and she does unscrupulous things such as rubbing Takashima's breasts in an empty bathroom with a calm face. It's thought that Takashima would also be dissatisfied with dating such a guy, but surprisingly there was a clause that seemed to enjoy this relationship, making it look like she was following Makabe's orders, and on the contrary, she was acting as if she was obeying him.
It seems that he is manipulating as he pleases (the fact that the antenna is standing on Makabe's head is evidence of that). Also, in the anime version, when he was hugged by Takashima, who was frightened by the appearance of Kindaichi dressed as a monster to explain the trick, he held her properly without seeming to bother her, and Makabe's side also has Takashima's literary talent and body. It doesn't seem like it's the only purpose. According to the official guidebook, ``This incident caused the ghostwriter to become known and lose popularity, and Takashima changed into a new person, completely reversing the power relationship between the two'', but the author carelessly forgot about it. It didn't change much when it reappeared after changing the settings (although the antenna was still there). Later, this setting will be used in the drama version.
Although he seems to have some reasoning power, he is still far from being the best, and in "School's Seven Mysteries Murder Case", he is made to reason according to the true culprit's intentions, and as a result, he is completely defeated by Kindaichi.
Perhaps because he lost the deduction, he begins to see Hajime as a rival, having uncovered the truth. He sometimes appears at the beginning of the episode and sometimes plans to outwit Kindaichi and act together with Miyuki, but every time Kindaichi sees through it and licks his bitterness.
Also, " Who Killed the Goddess? ”, he recruited Asaki, who also sees Hajime as a rival, and tried to demonstrate the perfect criminal trick he thought up all night, but he was completely ignored by Hajime, saying that he would be “stupid”. Later, Masahiko Kyotani joined the members to form the three self proclaimed rivals of Kindaichi.
