Maria Friedrich (マリア・フリードリヒ Maria Furīdorihi) is a German forensics analyst, The youngest medical examiner of the German police.

Appearance[]

History[]

At first she was not fluent in Japanese , but later she became fluent over time. Moreover, she is suspected of being the killer by Makime and Takigawa and is about to be tortured because she looks just like Elizabeth, the previous owner of the castle from four centuries prior. Although the fact she's indeed Elizabeth Friedrich's descendant is cut in the anime version, she is indeed a descendant of Elizabeth in the drama version.

In many ways, it can be said that she is the most suspicious person due to the many suspicious depictions that hint at her connection with Elisabeth Friedrich, the former lord of the Balt Castle, who is said to have committed a bizarre murders.

However, in the Kindaichi series, there is an easy to understand rule that "A person who is clearly shady and suspicious is not the culprit '', with several exceptions.

In the middle of the story, she is imprisoned by Makime and Takigawa, who suspect her. They thought that she lived in Japan for a long time, as she was fluent in Japanese later in the story and was planning a murder in Japan. It is likely that Makime and Takigawa only plan to threat her to confess.

Immediately after the real culprit is discovered, she guides the group to the front of the wall decorated with a painting by Elizabeth Friedrich, near the fireplace in the dining room, which was designed to be perfectly fireproof to escape the fire that was set on the castle. Thanks to that, all of Kindaichi and the others survived, but she was the only one who went missing, and because she was displayed right above the fireplace, it should have remained unburned. It is said that the portrait also disappeared with her.

According to her, the fire prevention design around the fireplace was made based on careful calculations so that the people of the castle could survive even if it was set on fire, a secret that has been handed down from generation to generation to the Friedrich family, the lords of Balt Castle. It is said that it was from this, it seems that there is no doubt that she is a member of the Friedrich family, but when Superintendent Akechi later inquired with the German police, the surprising fact was revealed that "there is no such medical examiner." . After all, her true identity remained unknown until the very end. That said, her examination of Toma's corpse and the knowledge she showed her were extremely precise and accurate, so it's questionable to think that her title is a complete lie.
