Summary[]
Prologue, Preparation of Ranpo Edogawa's Exhibition[]
Hajime dan Fumi went to Ranpo Edogawa's residence because, in the next event, Hajime will be charge-in-person of Ikebukuro Halloween's Event, Ranpo Edogawa Exhibition open by Dwagon at Toshima District, Tokyo. Ranpo Edogawa is a famous mystery novelist from the Taisho era. He wrote a favorite Kogoro Akechi series, the Detective Boy Club, etc., and had worked at a detective agency.
Meanwhile, Fumi looks to have something to discuss with Hajime. He misunderstands it as a complicated case from Fumi's Agency and refuses to help her because he is not want to solve any of it. Then, they were to look at Ranpo's Storehouse. Fumi intends to discuss the confession left by her boyfriend, Yuto Omino, also known as a murderer during a previous case and one of Twelve Olympians, Hermes. Fumi reads that confession message, already knows that Hajime doesn't want to solve any issues after a particular matter involving Reika Hayami, decides to be silent for a while, and tries looking for any clues about that herself.
After meeting Fumi at Ranpo's residence, Hajime and Marin went to Dwagon's office to discuss Ikebukuro Halloween and Ranpo Edogawa Exhibition. There they meet Ryosuke Funabashi as a person in charge of Dwagon. Funabashi said Hajime's name is similar to a particular detective name, Kosuke Kindaichi. Knowing that thing, Funabashi said this event is fitting with Hajime.
They will perform mystery escape games, riddle solving stamp-rally, a flash mob, and a murder drama at this collaboration event. To add some surprise part, they will request a background design from a mysterious, famous masked plastic artisan, Go Araki. Araki, also known as the Japanese Banksy, specializes in making plastic arts. They will hold a special pre-opening event for the media day after tomorrow for the final checking. After that, the event will be held three weeks later with Ikebukuro Halloween.
After the initial meeting, they are going to Mixa Live, Tokyo, where Ranpo Edogawa Exhibition will take place. There Hajime and Marin will look at the final preparation for the event. The first place they are seeing is beautiful in Taisho era style. That place also looks like a different world, like Ranpo's stories. The first attraction they see is from the story of the Transparency Fiend with its famous scene where the Fiend suddenly disappeared, leaving his wardrobe. After that, they are meet an anchorwoman for the event, Runako Uomori. They greet themselves, but nonchalantly Uomori sits on a chair for the attraction that resembles Ranpo's problem novella, The Human Chair. That novella is about a carpenter hiding the chair and grabbing its owner. Funabashi told them that there was no one hidden in that chair. Suddenly someone took a photo of that chair. He is Kyoshiro Hagari, the cameraman. Uomori scolds him for taking pictures without permission. He came with Satsuki Okuno, the web designer, and gave them his business card written "the cameraman of Weekly Monday Magazine." Hagari gave them the wrong card and gave another noted "the freelance photographer." After that, Okuno greets them. Funabashi said that she would be the web designer for this event. Okuno said she's happy to work with the famous plastic artisan, Go Araki, after a long time ago. She also commented that this plastic art magnificent works and replicates the sanity and madness of Ranpo's stories.
After Uomori, Hagari, and Okuno join Kindaichi, Marin, and Funabashi, they walk together to see another attraction. They see the statue of the Fiend with Twenty Faces with his signature hat, mantle, and a white-masked while holding a paper in his hand. Hajime is curious about that card and remembers that the Fiend used that card a lot after stealing something. But Hajime is shocked when he reads the words of The Murderer with Twenty Faces there. Hajime asks Funabashi whether this card is a part of the attraction or not. Funabashi took that card and thought its a misspelling. Marin wondered who made this card and wrote "the Murderer" instead of "the Fiend." At that time, Hajime feels a bad premonition instead of considering it a mistake in writing.
A day later, the spectator of a special pre-opening event for the media arrived. The famous Instagrammer 'Ran Shimasaki posted his arrival in his account, then Hajime gave her a card case. After that, Funabashi introduces the alpha blogger with one hundred fifty thousand followers, Minami Shikakura.
