Ruri Madarame (斑目 るり (まだらめ るり) Madarame Ruri) was an elementary school student and third daughter of the Madarame family. She's the first victim of the Black Butterfly of Death Murder Case.
Appearance[]
Ruri was a preteen girl with short black hair and one of her eyes green. She was mainly seen wearing a kimono with a butterfly motif.
Personality[]
Similar to her older sisters, She deeply hates her father Shimon Madarame due to his cruelty and only seeing his daughters as collectables. At first, she didn't smile at all, but she finally became friends with Kindaichi, but just when she was likened to "Ooruri Shijimi", she was killed first, and her body was found under the black death butterfly.
She is the only instance where Kindaichi has expressed his rage about someone being attacked or killed, other than when it comes to someone close to him, such as Miyuki.
Relationships[]
Her stepfather, Ruri wasn't fond of Shimon since the man saw her sisters, her mother and herself as collectables. Whenever Shimon touches something, Ruri immediately throws it away, stating she doesn't want anything touched by him.
A high school student and a detective, Ruri became close to Hajime after he saved her from a falling ladder. Sometime prior to her murder, Hajime and Fumi promised to play with her the following day. Hajime became enraged when an innocent girl ended murdered by the culprit.
Etymology[]
- Ruri's surname Madarame means "rash, spot, unevenness, irregularity" (斑) (madara) and "eye, ogle" (目) (me).
- Her given name Ruri can be derived from (瑠璃) "lapis lazuli".
Trivia[]
- Ruri is the youngest murder victim in the whole series at age 12.
