Tatsuyuki Hiyama is a 2nd year college student and one of the suspects in Graveyard Island Murder Case. He's part of Iwano's team and apparently he entered a year ago. He's considered handsome but dark and disgusting gun geek. Namba says that he along with the others felt "no cooperation" with him.

Hiyama rarely speaks before the mass killing of the Yonemura team and mostly excluded from any conversation. He suddenly shouts at his teammates that he senses the enemy team is nearby. After the incident happened, he suddenly changed and act like a real soldier. He said to Hajime that he was aiming for Miyuki, but it was just a bluff that he enjoyed making fun of Hajime.
He's later revealed as the culprit of the murder case. In fact, he is one of the two killers, the other being Remi Morishita, who seemed to be at odds with him on the island. She was a childhood friend and lover. His gloomy, overly militaristic and sly personality is partly due to his acting, and he is originally a gentle and kind young man. Like Remi, he is the "survivor of the village" and hates and murders Iwano and others who took away their family and hometown. He happened to see Iwano and others talking at a restaurant, and Remi told them to turn him in to the police, but Hiyama tells her that they're going to be released due to insufficient evidence, so he decided to kill them himself. He is exposed as the culprit with a dying message in Morse code format disguised as Yonemura's obituary. Even after it was revealed that he was the culprit, he played crazy by vomitting the above-mentioned lines to protect Remi, but when he tried to kill Iwano, he was deceived. And then, " That guy has nothing to do with me to save himself. You're the man who took the place of him! Are you going to protect such a terrible bastard!" In response to those words, Kindaichi said, "The one I want to help is you."
In the end, he cut himself off to protect Remi (taking poison in the anime). At that time, he passed away leaving behind a quote that will go down in the history of Kindaichi Case Files.

- Hiyama is the second to last culprit to commit suicide. The last culprit(s) to commit suicide are Masayuki Onodera and Midori Madarame. In the anime, it's the opposite.
