Tetsuo Gondo (権藤 徹男 (ごんどう てつお)) is a detective in First Section Investigation of Metropolitan Police Office in charge of both the The First Case of Young Akechi and Young Takato Case File.

Tetsuo Gondo is an incompetent detective who decided that Akechi is the criminal in The First Case of Young Akechi and tried to interrogate him severely based on his circumstantial evidence and his own intuition. Later, he reappears in Young Takato Case File, which is set in the same Shuo High School, but even then, even though there is no circumstantial evidence that Takato did it, he tries to pull him out as an important witness by relying on intuition.
For that reason, after his first appearance , the reader's impression of him was worse than that of Inspector Shigeru Nagashima, who disliked Kindaichi but still willing to provide information.
In addition, he seems to know well about Akechi's father, who was a former detective, who was talked about at the time of Wax Doll Castle Murder Case, but he has a "mass of sense of justice" toward Akechi, and "even the defiant way of speaking is just like his father." Judging from the bits and pieces of his lines, it seems that he didn't think very well of Akechi's father (his personal feelings may have been part of his decision to label Akechi as the culprit).
