Western-style Village Murder Case (異人館村殺人事件 Ijinkan Mura Satsujin Jiken) is the first episode of the first generation of the first series of TV Drama The Kindaichi Case Files, based on the story arc of the same name.

In this episode, Hajime Kindaichi, Miyuki Nanase, and their English teacher, Susumu Odagiri, go to the Cross-shape Village to take Wakaba Tokita from the forced marriage. Wakaba was found dead inside the locked church with his head missing when they held the ritual before the wedding. Afterward, another villager mutilated, and his condition imitates the mummy they had. Hajime and the others try to find the true identity of the formless murderer, the fifth mummy.

Summary[]

Prologue, The Western-style Village, The Cross-shape Village[]

In the middle of English class, Hajime Kindaichi made traditional Japanese food, natto, which makes him take the punishment for standing up in the hallway. Suddenly, a black hooded man with four bodyguards broke through the class and created chaos. That black hooded man is Juzo Tokita, Wakaba Tokita's father, who tries to take her back to the village by force. He receives a photo of his daughter going out of a hotel with Susumu Odagiri. Because of that, Juzo Tokita decides to take Wakaba back and arrange a married with a wealthy family there. Odagiri and Hajime try to prevent that, but Tokita and his bodyguard beat them.

After gaining consciousness, Hajime woke up in a car ride by Odagiri. Together, Hajime, Miyuki, and Odagiri try to take back Wakaba and prevent his forced marriage. When they arrive at the border of the Cross-shape Village, they meet Kiriko Kabuto. She told them about the four prominent residents of his village with their iconic western-style houses. Juzo Tokita, Wakaba's Father, owns the Clock House. Jun'ya Kazamatsuri, the owner of the Weather Vane House. Mitsuko Fuyuki owns the White House. And the Armor House is owned by Kiriko's Father, Reiji Kabuto.

Manga/Live-Action Differences[]

  • Torao Isshiki, Ran Goto, Hisahiko Renjo, and Kotaro Tawarada don't appear.
    • Renjo's only mentioned without any appearances.
  • The scene of Hajime taking a picture of unnamed Fudo High School PTA and unnamed Fudo High School Principal at a hotel was excluded.
  • Shiori and Ryuichi's family name changed from Rokusei to Kanzaki.
  • In the manga, Reiji Kabuto is killed but is alive in the show.
